Whiti Te Ra - The Rising Sun



The school publishes a newsletter called Ako! Ako! Ako! for its students and their families. Its name derives from Ako – a verb which means both ‘to learn’ and ‘to teach’. The newsletter will be sent out at intervals during the year.  Our most recent versions are attached:

Dear Parents/Caregivers
Powhiri for New Principal: On Wednesday 21st September at 10.00am there will be a full school pohiri for our new principal, Ms Ragne Maxwell.

Student Trustee Election: Voting takes place on Tuesday 20th September for all students. The 2 candidates are Nictequa Amaru-Erskine and Murray Faivalu.

Mufti Day: Friday 16th September; gold coin donation please – proceeds are going to ‘Feed the Community’; an initiative for feeding those facing homelessness/housing issues in the Wellington region.

Subject Selection for 2017: Due by Wednesday 21st September; students in Years 10, 11 and 12 need to have submitted their subject choices to their Learning Coach by this date.

Pasefika PowerUp: This programme is designed to support students with homework/ assessments. PowerUp starts on Wednesday 14th September and will be held at Whitireia Campus, 3 Wi Neera Drive, Porirua between 5.30 – 7.30pm. The programme will run for the next 8 weeks and qualified teachers will be there to assist your child with any assistance they require.

Uniform: Text messages will be sent to caregivers if your child is not in correct school uniform. Please remember hoodies are NOT to be worn on site. All students need warm uniform layers with plain black or dark blue jackets.
